Many of us have heard the expression in business: ‘What gets measured gets done’. Whilst that is largely true, it is important to measure the right things. In other words, we should measure those things that have the greatest impact on achieving the company’s strategic goals.
One of the most influential instruments for aligning organizational performance with strategy is the Balanced Scorecard, originally developed by Robert Kaplan of Harvard Business School and his associate, David Norton.
The Balanced Scorecard is a management system which guides current performance and also targets future performance.
It manages results by using measures in four categories: Financial, Customer, Internal Processes and Learning and Growth, which includes innovation, employee and organization infrastructure development. The Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in these four categories align individual, organizational, and cross departmental initiatives to meet the company’s strategic goals.
Scorecards help businesses stay on track by providing a comprehensive view of their activities and performance. Scorecards allow you to manage your company more successfully and achieve greater results by focusing on the ‘vital few’ measures that matter to your customers, employees and stakeholders. By reducing data overload, properly developed Scorecards become a manager’s tool for translating strategies into measurable actions and meaningful business results.
Based on the proven Kaplan and Norton (Harvard Business School) methodology, we will work closely with key members of your organization to construct your Scorecard and unique Key Performance Indicators, enabling the most important areas of your business to be accurately monitored on a monthly basis. We will then gather data each month and create consistent monthly scorecards for you, analysing the performance of your business on numerous levels and making sure that strategies are effectively implemented.
